| CERTIFICATES
IN RATIONAL EMOTIVE AND COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY
|
|
|

Despite the significant early contributions of Wolpe, Lazarus and
Rachman to the advancement of behaviour and cognitive therapy, professional
training opportunities in empirically-based treatments and cognitive-behavioural
therapy remain almost non-existent in South Africa.
There are currently only a handful of internationally trained cognitive
behaviour therapists in the country. This is both concerning and
indicative of the degree to which empirically supported treatments
are unavailable to the general public utilizing both public and
private mental health care services in South Africa. This therefore
highlights the need for world class training opportunities for budding
cognitive behaviour therapists.

PRACTICUM CERTIFICATE IN RATIONAL EMOTIVE AND COGNITIVE
BEHAVIOUR THERAPY |
This intensive four-day practicum will
be presented in Cape Town for the second time from
the 1st to the 4th March 2012. The practicum will
be hosted in collaboration with the Albert
Ellis Institute, New York. This four-day
practicum will closely follow the 3 day primary practicum
presented by the Albert Ellis Institute in New York
City, thus bringing world class professional training
in REBT and CBT at a fraction of the cost. Click
here to view an estimated cost outline for attending
the same practicum in NYC
The training of cognitive therapists requires a
combination of didactic instruction and experiential
learning or supervised practice. This practicum
therefore involves three full morning seminars on
CBT and REBT theory aimed at assessment, case conceptualization
and treatment of a variety of emotional and behavioural
problems. Afternoon sessions will entail small group
supervision where delegates will be exposed to learning
how to assess for, conceptualize and intervene with
dysfunctional thinking underlying emotional and
behavioural problems.
Delegates will receive official Albert Ellis
Institute certificates that will enable admission
to the Advanced Practicum. The Advanced Practicum
is being held concurrently but is only open to
delegates with Primary Practicum certificates.
The workshop is accredited by the American Psychological
Association for 24 CE credits.
PROGRAM
During the 3-Day Primary Practicum, participants
will learn to:
- Understand and apply the REBT theory of emotional
disturbance and change.
- Apply the ABC model to a wide range of clinical
issues.
- Identify, challenge and dispute clients' dysfunctional
thoughts.
- Construct and teach clients how to have new
adaptive thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Participants will receive:
- The opportunity to observe live demonstrations
of therapy sessions.
- 12 hours of lectures on practical assessment
strategies, case conceptualizations, and intervention
skills.
- 12 hours of small group supervised practice
of REBT and CBT skills.
